Today in class we covered section 2-3, which taught us how using a table of values can help us find an algebraic expression for the given data.
Homework Due Tuesday 11/1: Handout given in class of pg. 60-61 #1-15 all. The handout was just a
copy of the text book page.

Today in class we got some more practice with evaluating algebraic expressions, and then moved onto section 2-2. This section deals with translating words into math, and math into words.
The lesson focused on the fact that even though we are now using variables, that the language stays the same. While we say "35 plus 41", when we remove 35 and replace it with a variable the language stays the same however 35 is replaced with x; "x plus 41".
Homework Due Friday 10/28: Page 57 # 12-16 all, 20-22 all, 34, 35.

Today in class we went over last weeks quiz. We then started our coverage on Chapter 2 (Intro to Algebra).
We went over some definitions, variable, constant, algebraic expression, evaluate.
We were able to look at some charts and see how variables work.
Homework Due Wednesday 10/26: Pg. 52-53 #8-15 all, 23, 24, 26.

Class Notes 10/18
Today in class we covered section 1-6 which taught the students how to recognize patterns and sequences.
After the lesson the students worked in groups trying to solve some patterns that I had created from them.
There will be a short quiz on Thursday covering sections 1-3 (PEMDAS) and section 1-6 (Patterns and Sequences)
Homework due Thursday 10/20: Pg 31-32 # 9, 11, 13, 15, 19, 23, 25

Class Notes 10/14
Today in class we went over the section 1-2 homework plus the in class assignment that was completed last class. After we went over both of those assignments we moved on into Section 1-3, Order of Operations.
Today we learned about the proper order that numerical expressions must be simplified. We also learned that when we see an expression with multiplication and division on the same line that we need to perform the operations as we move left to right, and not just do multiplication first because that shows up first in PEMDAS.
We then had a few minutes at the end of class to work together in groups and simplify some numerical expressions.
Homework Due Tuesday 10/18: Page 20 #9-21 odds, 34, 35, 36.

Class Notes 10/5
Today in class we covered exponents and how they work (they are really repeated multiplication). We also talked about why we use exponents and shows how they can make multiplying easier. We saw an example of a phone tree and how trying to multiply each round can be time consuming.
After we covered the unit the groups worked on some exponent worksheets.
Homework Due Friday 10/7: Page 12-13 #13, 15, 17, 23, 25, 27, 59, 60.
